Meet Dr. Harold Hong, MD

Harold Hong, MD is a board-certified psychiatrist who is passionate about recovery from substance use disorders and addiction through a holistic approach. From his personal recovery journey and professional work with patients, he understands how integrating family-of-origin trauma recovery, practicing mindfulness, and the judicious use of medication and somatic therapies works to build a strong foundation for sustained recovery.

Dr. Hong graduated with a BA in Philosophy from the University of Michigan. He went on to complete a dual MD and MA Bioethics with an emphasis in the theology of medicine and care of souls. He completed psychiatric residency at Duke University where he was the chief resident of the Family Studies Clinic. Concurrent to residency, Dr. Hong earned an MBA at the Duke Fuqua School of Business in Health Sector Management. Dr. Hong is the founder and president of Provia Healthcare, a multi-specialty mental health provider in North Carolina. Prior to founding Provia Healthcare, Dr. Hong was an associate at McKinsey & Co. where he served in their health care management consulting practice, advising insurance companies, health systems and health sector investors.

Dr. Hong is an active member of his community. He was a founding church planter of City Well UMC in Durham, N.C., and serves as a director on the board of Prevent Child Abuse America, a nationally renowned nonprofit dedicated to the primary prevention of child abuse through research, policy advocacy and support of home visiting programs.
